Incorrect Real Time Clock frequency on net5501
This is the statement from Soekris Engineering, Issue0004:

"Most of the net5501 boards from the first batch have incorrect capacitors mounted in the Real Time Clock circuit, causing the RTC clock to either not run at all, or run at incorrect frequency.

The RTC clock can be tested by using the "time" command at the comBIOS promt twice, if the time difference don't match with the interval between the commands then the board need to be updated with correct capacitors.

You can either:

1) Return the board to either Soekris Engineering in USA or Cortex Systems in Denmark and have the board updated under our normal warranty terms. If you do so, remember to include your return address and let us know it's about that issue. We will make every effort to do it as fast as practical possible.

2) If you have solder experience and feel confident you can do it yourself, we will be happy to ship you the small surface mount 22pf NP0 0603 ceramic capacitors needed. The two capacitors that need to be replaced are located next to crystal X3, see picture, they're the ones marked with a green line. Our normal warranty will not be voided, even if something minor goes wrong.

Is my board affected?
You can do the test from the above Soekris quote to make sure. All boards send out by us from September and forward has been fixed, even if from the first batch.

Who are entitled to ship the board to Cortex Systems?
Anyone, it doesn't matter where you bought it, we will fix it.

Who pays for shipping, etc.?
This issue will be fixed under normal warranty terms which means you, the customer, pays for the shipping from you to us, we will pay for the shipping back to you. Again, this is regardless of whether you bought the board with us or somewhere else.

What procedure should I follow if I want to return it
Very simple, safely pack the box or board (you can take the board out of the case if you want just make sure to pack it securely), label it "RTC fix" or something similar so we know what it's about and ship it to:

If you live outside of EU, contact us first for a return procedure due to customs issues.

DO NOT SHIP US ANYTHING BUT THE BOARD AND/OR CASE!

How long does it take?
Well, that ultimately depends on how long the shipping takes, but we will strive to ship the fixed board back out the same day as we recieve it.

What if I want to fix it myself?
Well, that's fine, just send us an e-mail with your address and such and we will send you a letter containg the capacitors.
